People who eat more whole grain foods tend to have a healthier body weight and gain less weight over time.

How could eating more whole grains help you to lose weight? For millions of health-conscious women it is a great story, those who eat more wholegrain as part of a healthy diet tend to weigh less. No one knows exactly why people who eat whole grains tend to have a healthier body weight and gain less weight over time. But scientists certainly have their theories:

“The Fibre Factor”

Some research shows a link between controlling weight gain and high intakes of dietary fibre. Whole grains are a great source of soluble fibre which takes longer to digest and may be helping us to feel fuller for longer. The easy way to fend off those snack attacks!

“The Fuller Factor”

Or it could be the fact that the body can’t digest whole grains as quickly as it can digest highly processed carbohydrates such as white flour. This keeps blood sugar and insulin levels from rising and falling too quickly, again keeping hunger at bay.

There is still no definite answer as to why whole grain is so helpful at weight management. But as long as it keeps helping us, we say: who cares?

Go easy on creamy sauces and curries that could smother your good intentions!
